My Self threatens to to escape Attracted strongly by the light. O my inner sense, begin now To enter into your rightful powers; Replace in me the strength of thought That threatens to lose itself in the senses' outer show. Calendar of the Soul -Rudolf Steiner

- 25th November 2025
We acknowledge the Wadandi (Saltwater people) as the traditional custodians of these lands, skies and waterways where we come together at Yallingup Steiner School, and where learning has taken place for thousands of years.
We extend this respect to all First Nations people and thank the Ancestors, Elders, and custodians of the Wadandi community, who have cared for and continue to nurture Country, in their many restoration projects, community and cultural research and spiritual wisdom of the earth as sacred.

Welcome to Week 7
Dear Families,
There is much anticipation as the end of term draws near.
All things Christmas are tantalising to the children and I can see busy hands preparing with the sweetest intent in the classrooms.
Very soon we will be saying goodbye to yet another Class Six cohort and their preparations for graduation are also generating a hum.
At the other end of the spectrum, we are seeing more of the “butterflies”, our Kindergarten six-year-olds settling into the big playground in preparation for their entry into Class One in 2026.
We have been fortunate to entertain some parent education and discussion evenings this term with a very well attended presentation from Lou-Harvey Zahra, author, educator and presenter last week and a screening of the “Kids Embrace” film discussed by a gathering of parents earlier in the term.
There is certainly no perfect recipe for parenting and views are always changing in society. Thus, opportunity for shared discussion and ideas are a welcome offering in the community.
As a Steiner school there is perhaps one tenet that is central in our orientation to education, this being the unique unfolding of each individual child’s destiny.
With an awareness of the diversity within any group, Steiner schools still strive for social life and renewal each day. Acknowledgement of the humanity that is common in each student is brought through content, engagement and activity within each school day to develop this social cohesion.
This is captured very simply in our little verse that closes our Primary assemblies each Tuesday:
“The earth is firm beneath my feet,
The sun shines bright above,
And here I stand, so straight and strong,
All things to know and love.”
My very best to you all,
Jacqui

Advent
This coming Sunday, November 30th, marks the beginning of the Advent season, which consists of four Sundays leading up to the celebration of Christmas. As we approach this special time, we invite families to join in this meaningful tradition.
The Advent Garden provides a gentle and reflective way to mark the passage of time as Christmas draws near. Through this tradition, children are encouraged to experience a sense of anticipation and wonder. During the first few days of Advent children can begin decorating the Advent Garden by placing a crystal or stone. This will be followed by the addition of a shell, and then some knitted or wooden animals.
Class 4 Excursion
Recently, Class Four were fortunate to have the experience of learning from Wadandi custodian Josh Whiteland from Koomal Dreaming, on an excursion to Ngilgi cave. Josh presented the children with knowledge of the six Noongar seasons. He explained further the cultural connection and meaning of caring for Country, how the six seasons inform this care and the reciprocal relationship between humans and Country. Walking with Josh, we caught a glimpse of the unparalled beauty of learning on Country as we travelled through time on a bushland pathway. Here, we met with many installations that gave insight into the varying periods of the earth’s history and the lifeforms that existed many millions of years before the limestone of Ngilgi cave was created.
Josh then led the children on a journey, sharing the dreaming story of the good spirit, Ngilgi and gracing the children with his cultural knowledge of artefacts and tools. The children joyfully played music along with Josh and were invited to dance and improvise in their movement. After taking us through further bushland where local food and medicinal flora were identified, we arrived at the entrance of the cave and made our way down. Inside the cave, Josh gave a heartfelt acknowledgment on the digeridoo, and the children moved their way through the many beautiful limestone formations.
The experience greatly enhanced the children’s learning on First Nations perspectives, and we are deeply grateful for this opportunity to learn. In the classroom, it has assisted in providing meaning for our understandings, especially with our spoken word/movement pieces on Country.
Parent Education
EMBRACE Movie- thoughts from Gita
A year ago the seed was planted to start some more conversations amongst our parent community about how best to support our children in forming strong and resilient relationship with their body, the magical vessel that will carrier us through this life. After careful consideration an evening gathering was curated that was powerful, heartwarming and hopeful.
We started by watching the kids Embrace movie which addresses how we are conditioned to question our value based on the barrage of online content that is not realistic and driven by consumerism. Helping our children to discern what is real and natural diversity from the body depictions they see online is key. And also arming them with protective behaviours around guarding their mind from unrealistic body standards. Instead flooding them with the message that you are perfect as you are and we need to all be different to make up the patchwork of beauty we are collectively. And this messaging starts with us as parents modelling body positivity – as our children learn how to think and talk about their bodies from us.
After the movie concluded local singer songwriter Lemon Myrtle shared in song ‘My Body’. Enjoy reading song text below with your child!
We sang together as the impressions of the movie settled in. The evening finished with opportunity to ask questions and share thoughts and challenges guided by Faye Castle, nutritional coach. Faye shared a wealth of information on nurturing a healthy relationship with food & body based on intuitive eating, no moral judgement of food and disconnecting weight from your body being considered healthy or not. We spoke on how best to guide our children through example and role modelling. See attached resources that Faye shared.
As organisers and contributors to this initiative we hope this seed will continue growing in our community, thank you to all who joined and let’s keep talking & singing about this very important topic!
Warmly Gita-

SAFE: Animal Fostering
Can your family foster a cat or dog with SAFE?
SAFE (Saving Animals From Euthanasia) is WA’s largest volunteer-based animal rescue and rehoming service, and our local branch in Busselton urgently needs more foster carers. It’s a wonderful experience for the family to foster one of their lovely cats or dogs, providing a caring, temporary home to an animal that may have been abandoned or forced to be given up, until they find their forever family. They’re usually adopted within a few weeks to a few months. If you can help the Busselton branch, please apply here: https://safe.org.au/foster/
