YSS Newsletter 2026 Term 1 Week 2

Can I expand the soul So that it allies itself With the given world seed words? I sense I must find strength To shape the soul worthily As a garment for the spirit. Calendar of the Soul -Rudolf Steiner

We acknowledge the Wadandi (Saltwater people) as the traditional custodians of these lands, skies and waterways where we come together at Yallingup Steiner School, and where learning has taken place for thousands of years.

We extend this respect to all First Nations people and thank the Ancestors, Elders, and custodians of the Wadandi community, who have cared for and continue to nurture Country, in their many restoration projects, community and cultural research and spiritual wisdom of the earth as sacred.

Welcome Back to the 2026 School Year

Dear Yallingup Steiner School Community,

A warm welcome to all our returning families and to those who have joined our community for the first time this year. It was truly beautiful to watch the Class 1 children walk through the arch, beginning their primary school journey with such excitement, anticipation, and bright smiles. Their joy and sense of wonder set a lovely tone for the year ahead. We look forward to sharing many meaningful experiences with you and your children.

It was a pleasure to gather with all staff for two days of professional development before students returned. Beyond attending to essential administrative matters, we engaged in professional learning with Rod Tomlinson titled Form and Flow in Steiner Education. It gave us all the opportunity to reflect on our unique approaches to learning and curriculum delivery.
“Social understanding, freedom of thought, knowledge of the spiritual worlds. These are the three great aims and impulses of our time. In the light of these impulses we must develop, for they are the true lights of our time.” Rudolf Steiner

This year, swimming lessons will be held later in the term, allowing everyone to settle into their routine before travelling down to Old Dunsborough in weeks 8 and 9. More information will follow shortly.

If you have any questions about the term ahead, please feel free to call into the office or give us a call.

Music

Dear all,

Late in the summer holidays, I purchased a Harmonium for our school. If you haven’t seen one, it is a beautiful hand-pumped reed organ that produces a meditative, soulful, sustained sound. There is something incredibly moving about its vibration which seems to sit deep within the listener.

Playing the harmonium is a physical experience—you sit on the floor, one hand dancing across the keys while the other pumps the bellows. True masters can create seamless sound that truly resonates within, much like the circular breathing used by didgeridoo players.

Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha

Ganesha sharanam

This ancient Sanskrit mantra, in praise of Lord Ganesha, invokes blessings for wisdom and prosperity when starting new endeavours. When I first heard it, it spoke directly to my heart, and I knew I had to share: first in writing, soon in song.

If you are curious to see or hear the Harmonium, please stop by the hall. I’ll be there practising and I’d love to say hello.

Music classes are scheduled on Thursday and Friday each week starting on the 26th of February.

Warmly,

Rae-Lee
