We acknowledge the Wadandi (Saltwater people) as the traditional custodians of these lands, skies and waterways where we come together at Yallingup Steiner School, and where learning has taken place for thousands of years.

We extend this respect to all First Nations people and thank the Ancestors, Elders, and custodians of the Wadandi community, who have cared for and continue to nurture Country, in their many restoration projects, community and cultural research and spiritual wisdom of the earth as sacred.

Welcome to Week 5

This term, we welcomed families and visitors to two successive Open Days this term. One for Early Childhood and one for Primary school. Both were well attended, bringing together students, families, teachers and members of the wider community to offer learning, connection and celebration. From the moment visitors arrived, there was a warm and welcoming atmosphere that reflected the spirit of the school.

Throughout both days, guests had the opportunity to tour classrooms, view student work, meet staff and enjoy a range of activities and displays. Students proudly shared their learning, while teachers explained the programmes and opportunities available within the school. Many families commented on the confidence of the students and the rich and diverse learning environment they observed.

Both days evidenced the impressive outcomes possible when communities work together to support education, keeping families informed and involved, while also giving students the chance to celebrate their achievements.

Highlighting the tours this year was the number of alumni in attendance, some of whom were ready to enrol the next generation of students.

Our school has been operational for over three decades, providing wholistic education to families in the district and developing a unique place based programme, held within the national Australian Steiner Curriculum Framework.

For prospective families who may have missed the opportunity to attend a tour, the school welcomes enquiries at any time.

Class Two: Saints Main Lesson

Many are the stars in the dark midnight sky

and many are the people who spirits reach up high

Like the flame of a candle, may our hearts bring forth light

May our Earth shine in goodness like a star that’s burning bright

So has begun each morning in Class Two during our Saints Main Lesson. This Main Lesson, Class Two has been learning about exceptional individuals who have lived inspirational lives across times and cultures: those who have lived lives of service to others, believed in something bigger than themselves and made a difference in the world around them. We explored the inspiring stories of Saint Brigid, Saint Francis, the Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa, Malala Yousafzai and Jane Goodall. These stories are a contrast to the Fables last term, which represent the more instinctive human behaviours, by showing the image of goodness and truth in their lives. This resonates with the 8 year old child, who is experiencing a year of contrasts and balance, and helps them to strive for their higher self. In the Main Lesson, the students have been drawing and writing from the stories of the Saintly Lives as well as weaving St Brigid Crosses and Tibetan prayer flags.

Busselton Naturalists Club Talk

GUEST SPEAKER – EMERITUS PROFESSOR GARY KENDRICK

THE GREAT SOUTHERN REEF

Date: Thursday, Sept. 10
Time: 7.30 pm
Venue: Senior Citizens Centre, Busselton

Presenting at the BNC September meeting will be Emeritus Professor Gary Kendrick, one of Australia’s leading marine ecologists, who will talk about the Great Southern Reef.

Stretching around much of Australia’s southern coastline, the Great Southern Reef is a spectacular network of rocky reefs, kelp forests, seaweeds and seagrass meadows. It supports an incredible diversity of marine life — much of it found nowhere else in the world.

For those of us living around Geographe Bay and the South West, this is particularly relevant. Our local marine environment is part of this remarkable reef system, with seagrass meadows, limestone reefs and rich coastal habitats providing essential homes and feeding grounds for marine species.

Dr Hendrick will explore the fascinating biodiversity of the Great Southern Reef, its importance to our coastal environment, the threats it faces, and what can be done to protect and restore it.
