August Census 2024

This coming Friday, the 2nd of August, is Census Day. On this day, schools must report student numbers to both the Commonwealth and State governments. If your child will be absent on Census Day, please provide a ‘reasonable and acceptable explanation’ in writing. You can submit this absentee note preferably via School Stream or alternatively via email.

We are currently experiencing a number of absences due to illness. If your child has been absent this term, please ensure you return a note for all dates of absence. If you are unsure of these dates, please contact the office for assistance.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Class 2 News

The students in Class 2 have been practising how the fluid world of colour movement is awakened through Wet on Wet painting.  We have been inspired by the colours and forms that are found around us at this time of the year.

The Steiner National Framework (2024) states that ‘.early efforts are primarily experiential in nature. However, guidance as to the how of painting is gently reinforced, so that the truest expressions of colour can be had: that is pure colour and not muddied colour, neither too diluted nor strong, neither too wet nor dry, images too diffuse nor overly hard-edged.

Striving towards this interweaving balance of colour is in itself an artistic practice, the result of which enriches the child and develops his/her ability to appreciate colour harmony. Thus colour is brought in a living way and not theoretically.’

We will continue our exploration of Wet on Wet painting guided by the stories we hear and, of course, by our natural environment.

Class 4 Craft with Sally

This year the Class 4’s have extended their earlier needle felting work into an extended project to support their main lesson in ‘Human and Animal’.

We began our process by researching and sketching birds of Australia creating colour palates and refining our skill set for drawing. Our next stage was to begin the 7 step process for wet felting, selecting and preparing our roving wool to suit the colours for our backgrounds.

The children were surprised by the heavy work that needs to go into ‘working the wool’ and the many sessions it takes to create a strong and solid foundation for their work. A true test of the will for our cohort as they rubbed, scrubbed, rolled, rerolled and rerolled again.

Finally this semester we were able to begin needle felting. Having already worked on our Mothers days hearts together the children were already familiar with the work and this has proved a great strength for them in being able to now come harmoniously to the craft table. As we all now work together around the hearth of the table a quiet hum comes over the children. It has been a delight to bring them this far and I very much look forward to the end results. Well done Class 4!

With love

Sally and the children

Vac Swim October Holidays

Gourmet Farmer, writer, cook & broadcaster Matthew Evans returns to Margaret River to talk about the world’s original, and most controversial, superfood: MILK.

Milk. It’s in our coffee, on our cereal. We see it in processed form – yoghurt, butter, cheese, skimmed and lactose free.  It’s there in almond form, or made from oats or soy, and is as lauded as the ‘perfect’ food or lambasted as not fit for human consumption and a toxic planet killer, depending on who you trust.  Which type you drink, whether you were raised on breastmilk, what you think of it, is affected by culture, biology and fashion.  How you view it is driven by your gender and your politics, as well as your geography.

The miracle liquid has suffered an image problem.  It has been used to keep people poor, to keep women subjugated, and to build corporate and medical careers.  It’s been blamed for climate change, the breakdown of human health, and an enabler of the industrial revolution.  From perfect food to pariah, milk’s role in life has often been debased.

Milk celebrates the majesty of this noble liquid, and delves into the pretenders to its throne, from formula to Mylk.  It looks at the transformation of what a milk-producer eats into one of the most nutrient dense foods available, and how that can be transformed again into the butter, cheese and clotted cream that we know and love today.  It’s an exploration of the science, history and politics of what makes mammals different from every other life form on earth.

Matthew’s journey from city to countryside was documented in the SBS series Gourmet Farmer, following his aim to develop a self-sufficient lifestyle on a patch of Tasmanian farmland.  He has authored or co-authored 14 books on farming, growing, soil and eating.

Join us for a thought-provoking conversation with Matthew & Laura from Margaret River Organic Farmer.

Tickets are $15 (+ fees) and include a cuppa (with real fresh local milk).  Available at https://events.humanitix.com/matthew-evans-on-milk
