YSS Newsletter 2025 Term 2 Week 6

Secretly the ancient wisdom With newly arisen selfhood Comes with feeling alive inwardly; It should pour waking cosmic forces Into my life’s outward action And imprint my becoming into existence Calendar of the Soul -Rudolf Steiner

We acknowledge the Wadandi (Saltwater people) as the traditional custodians of these lands, skies and waterways where we come together at Yallingup Steiner School, and where learning has taken place for thousands of years.

We extend this respect to all First Nations people and thank the Ancestors, Elders, and custodians of the Wadandi community, who have cared for and continue to nurture Country, in their many restoration projects, community and cultural research and spiritual wisdom of the earth as sacred.

Week 6

Dear Families

Makuru has descended this week with heavy rains that are more than welcome after the dry summer we have had. The Southern Lights continue to bounce in the night skies and many animals are now pairing for the breeding season.

Last week our students made a gentle reconciliation gesture under the guidance of teachers. Some beautiful stitching of plant dyed felt gum leaves pervaded throughout the days and sweet songs in Nyoongar language were introduced or resurfaced from past years.

We begin to turn our attention to the upcoming winter festival, there is again more beautiful singing and lantern design. There’s a busy kitchen preparing the multitude of apple crumbles and a lovely feeling of the cohesiveness of the entire student and staff body.

Class 6 are diligently rehearsing their festival performance, and a new festival story is weaving its way into the atmosphere.

With the inevitable rise in sickness that often comes with the change of season, there have been changes and adaptations to classroom staffing. I thank all of the relief staff who have supported our programme and wish all that have been affected a speedy recovery.

Congratulations to the 2025 P&F who hosted a lovely Social Curry Night on a drizzly evening. It was very nice to see so many people take the opportunity to share a meal and enjoy some friendly time.

Stay warm everyone and enjoy the spectacle of nature as she unfolds before us over the next couple of days.

Kind Regards,

Jacqui

Reconciliation Week

Last week was Reconciliation Week for 2025: a time for growth, reflection, and commitment to walking together. The theme this year, Bridging Now to Next, was represented by the leaves of native Australian plants, known for their resilience to fire and thriving through adversity. Schools were encouraged to create an installation of leaves to represent our ongoing commitment to reconciliation. This week, all the classes have worked on stitching felt leaves in mixed class groups and joined them together in a bunting to be displayed at school. The teachers have brought the work of reconciliation in developmentally appropriate ways as the children worked together while singing songs in language and creating a beautiful shared artwork that represented our gratitude for living on Wadandi Boodja and those who have cared for Boodja for many years.

Class 4

In addition to the amazing felt leaf reconciliation project, Class 4 created a mural of paper daisies to hang in the classroom. This was inspired by the song ‘It’s a Beautiful Day’ by Children’s Ground and the hope and unity that can be found in the First Nations led fundraising campaign – ‘Wear it Yellow’  https://childrensground.org.au/

There is still time to donate to this incredible project.
