It is important to take the quiet and introspective mood of the festival with you. In keeping with this request, please refrain from using your devices, this is a no device event.
The students are encouraged to contemplate that which they would like to take into the new year and to reflect on the year gone by. The design of the spiral walk allows first for the letting go of the old and then on reaching the central light to begin projecting the new.
We warmly anticipate your company on Friday evening.
Sincerely,
The College of Teachers

Drumming Incursion K6-C6
On June 10 we were fortunate enough to experience some Japanese Culture at our school. Taiko On, a Perth based taiko drumming performance group, provided the children and staff with a sensational immersive performance and workshops.
Taiko drums are large and loud and the school was certainly bathed in sound.
We started with a whole school performance in which the performers showcased their amazing skills on the various sized drums, a Japanese flute and bell chime. The children were mesmerised. They were then invited to join in with their voice and hand percussion in call and response fashion. This really loosened things up. When some students were called up to experience the drums hands on the excitement really built.
After the performance there were 2 workshops in which Class 1 ~ 6 students got the opportunity to learn and hone skills on the taiko drums. The performers engaged the students beautifully as all students had their own drum and could swap and try other ones in the 30 minute session. Simon even had the students twirling the sticks and doing a jig whilst playing the taiko! It is very physical! it was great for the students to hear language that they have been learning as well as new phrases within such a creative context.
It was such a great experience for our students. Taiko is an integral part of Japanese spiritual and festival life. To be able to experience an authentic performance as this is truly fortunate. We look forward to welcoming them back to our school in the future.
Kindergarten Spiral
Winter solstice celebrations are under way in the kindergartens this week.
The children have been busy making lanterns and learning all our winter songs.
What a pleasure it is to watch them so carefully carry their little lights into and out of our spiral.

Community Repair Co-Op

All the repairers are volunteers and range from the simply handy to the professionally qualified. If you’d like to learn how to sew on a button, they’ll show you. If you can’t repair your own item they’ll try and repair it for you. If they can’t repair it, A Single Leaf South West might know someone who can. If it really is unrepairable, they might still be able to help you keep it out of landfill by advising where you can gift it to be repurposed or dropped off to be recycled.
Everyone is welcome to bring their broken belongings and every effort will be made to fix them while you wait. Unfortunately, at the current time they cannot fix electrical items. All we ask is for a gold coin donation for each item repaired.
Let’s be less rubbish with rubbish!
Our next event is Saturday, 28th June at the St George’s Anglican Church, 50 Gibney Street Dunsborough
