YSS Newsletter 2025 Term 3 Week 8

May there shine in the light That flows from cosmic heights to the soul The surety of world thought That solves riddles of the soul, And may it gather radiance To awake love in human hearts. Calendar of the Soul -Rudolf Steiner

We acknowledge the Wadandi (Saltwater people) as the traditional custodians of these lands, skies and waterways where we come together at Yallingup Steiner School, and where learning has taken place for thousands of years.

We extend this respect to all First Nations people and thank the Ancestors, Elders, and custodians of the Wadandi community, who have cared for and continue to nurture Country, in their many restoration projects, community and cultural research and spiritual wisdom of the earth as sacred.

Week 8

Dear Families,

This week we welcome our Class 6 group back from their Conto’s camp, a feature of the culmination of this year’s collaboration with Cape to Cape Explorer Tours.

The Class were accompanied by Ruth and Paul and were also treated to some wonderful activities led by Andrew Haskell.

As a follow on from my last newsletter article, where I relayed notes from the Delegates conference in Alice Springs, discussing these elements of Steiner Education, I would like to thank our teachers for embracing this integral part of the learning journey so wholeheartedly.

Rudolf Steiner was emphatic about the importance of immersion in the natural world for students, not only to assist in healthy development of individuals but to ensure the care and custodianship of the planet. The two are of course not mutually exclusive.

While on camp, students carried fire to cook their meals, filtered water, oriented themselves in the wilds, contemplated historical stories of survival and looked after each other through simulated scenarios.

In quality primary school education, everything is presentable and teachable in a practical way and the context of the natural environment provides for potent learning.

Our school is committed to providing significant curriculum delivery in nature and we thank families for supporting this by having had students well prepared for bushwalks and camp provisions.

We look forward to celebrating the season on country with everyone on the 18th in conjunction with the Eurythmy performance.

Until then,

best wishes,

Jacqui

Spring Equinox

Dear Parents,

This year our Spring Equinox celebrations will take place on Thursday, 18th September, and all parents and caregivers are warmly invited to attend.

The day will begin with two performances by the senior students of the Pacifica College of Eurythmy. Our younger students will enjoy a performance at school, while our older students will attend a performance at St. George’s Family Centre Dunsborough Pacifica College, based in the Samford Valley near Brisbane, is currently touring Australia and we are fortunate to be one of their stops!

Following these morning performances, the whole school will gather at Meelup Beach to share lunch and honour the arrival of spring. Please pack a picnic lunch for yourselves if you wish to join as students will bring their own packed lunch along.

At the beach, our new friends from Pacifica will conclude the festival by leading a short, participatory eurythmy experience for all.

If you plan to take your child home from the beach, please let your class teacher know in advance and sign the register on the day. Otherwise, students will return to school in time for normal bus pick-up.

We are deeply grateful to our Eurythmy teacher, Early Childhood assistant, and Playgroup leader Julie Vivian-Williams, who has a special connection to Pacifica College.

In 2019, Neish Kyle and I attended Pacifica, and now my daughter Sky (from Yallingup Steiner School’s first graduating class) is performing with the troupe in her senior year. This connection has drawn Jan Baker-Finch, Josefin Porteous, their eleven graduating students, and their pianist across the continent to share their art with us.

Let us celebrate their generous spirit. Their performances will be a treat for the senses—music, poetry, movement, and colour. Please come and experience this inspiring art form.

Warmly, The College of Teachers

A Program of Events has been emailed to all families and SchoolStreamed.
