We acknowledge the Wadandi (Saltwater people) as the traditional custodians of these lands, skies and waterways where we come together at Yallingup Steiner School, and where learning has taken place for thousands of years.
We extend this respect to all First Nations people and thank the Ancestors, Elders, and custodians of the Wadandi community, who have cared for and continue to nurture Country, in their many restoration projects, community and cultural research and spiritual wisdom of the earth as sacred.

Week 9
Dear Families,
Welcome to the final newsletter for the year. May you all enjoy the spirit of Christmas with your extended family and friends
As a collective staff we wish to thank you for investing your trust in us in our endeavour to bring the of light Steiner Education to your children throughout the year.
There is much to celebrate and the outward facing energy of the approaching summer months helps the cheer to come easily. This was evident at yesterday’s most beautiful Canal Rocks rite of passage and also at our school based ‘freshwater celebration’, that was seamlessly facilitated by teachers to accommodate last minute and unforeseen changes that were necessitated. All due thanks to the College of Teachers for their due diligence and thorough preparations that served the desire to bring joy to the students.
Today has held a more inward reflection of the Christmas mystery, with the presentation of the story of King Melchoir and his blessed attendant Amos as they travelled by the light of the star as part of the caravan of kings. It is always so humbling to have the children receive the offering of a story with their full attention and wide eyes. More precious than any gold that the King might have offered.
I would like to make special mention here of the families who are leaving at the end of term. We say goodbye to Sharlee and Dan Momsen, Sarah and Brad Moore, Karl and Susy O’Hare, Brooke and Brad Thomas, Chantelle and Roddy Darlington, Charlie Serveau and Rose Tercio, Kyle and Kerstin Woosnam and Tiffany and Josh Boon. Some of whom have been with the school for many years. We hope that your experience with us has enriched your family lives and that you will carry forth a rich collection of memories.
This week, our school celebrates student transitions with two ceremonies. On Wednesday, we celebrate our Class 6 students with a beautiful ceremony, marking their achievements as they prepare for their next chapter of their educational journey. Thursday’s K6 transition recognises the journey of our Butterflies as they become our next year’s Class 1. With the sound of singing to herald the way forth, we celebrate our much-loved graduates:
May troubles be less and blessings be more
And nothing but happiness come to your door.
And may you have luck wherever you roam, your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow.
May wind be at your back and sun be overhead
May friends be at your side wherever you are led.
Kindest Regards,
Jacqui
Class 6 Farewell
As we come to the close of our six-year journey together, it is hard not to feel both wonder and tenderness for all that has unfolded within this remarkable class. This year has been a culmination of growth, intellectual, emotional, artistic and social. All shaped by years of shared stories, struggles, laughter, discovery and deepening friendships. The Class Six child stands at a threshold: no longer the small one and not yet the adolescent, but poised, stretching outward, ready to meet the wider world. I have watched each of them step into greater responsibility, independence and self-knowledge and it has been one of the greatest privileges of my teaching life.
Our final adventure to Wadjemup, Rottnest Island, felt like a fitting closing chapter. We spent the week not only exploring the island’s natural beauty but also gathering up the intangible threads of our time together. Riding along the coastal paths, snorkelling over vibrant coral, cooking and eating side by side, sharing stories, jokes and quiet conversations, these simple moments held the essence of who we have become as a class family. The children moved with confidence and camaraderie, looking out for one another, celebrating challenges met and offering gentle encouragement where needed. There was space for joy, for reflection and for the quiet realisation that this was our last camp together.
Highlights of the week included snorkelling with schools of shimmering fish, our long ride to West End, the nightly card games with laughter echoing and our final sunset gathering, acknowledging how far we have all travelled together. It was a time of gratitude, of steady presence and of recognising that these shared experiences will live within the children as they move forward.
Yesterday’s “Leap of Faith” at Canal Rocks felt like the perfect final milestone. With courage and exuberance, the children leapt into the deep canal, meeting the moment with the joy of one last shared adventure. Their laughter echoed against the rock walls and as I joined them for a final swim, floating in the cool, clear water, surrounded by my ducklings, I felt a tear rise. It was a moment of pure trust, strength and togetherness, a symbolic stepping-out into the unknown, held safely by the bonds we have woven over six beautiful years.
As we prepare for graduation, I feel an immense sense of pride in the young people they have become. They are capable, kind, humorous, determined and ready. They have served the school with grace and confidence as our leaders this year, guiding younger students, modelling responsibility and helping to shape the tone of our community. They have learned to work with focus, to collaborate, to question, to care deeply and to bring themselves wholeheartedly to each experience. The light they carry into the next stage of their education has been kindled through years of shared endeavour, and I trust it will guide them well.
Class Six of 2025—thank you for the journey. You will always hold a place in my heart.
Ruth
Kebitj Festival
Classes One to Three enjoyed a Kebitj (Freshwater) Festival today while the older classes were at their Saltwater experience. There was much joyful celebration running through sprinklers, sliding down slides and playing with bubbles and water brushes. We then joined the older classes for a picnic lunch.
Class 4
Class Four are finishing their work on First Nations perspectives. They have created books relating to this wisdom and have engaged experientially in small groups, creating pieces together that express their understandings through movement and words. This was inspired by our recent local excursion with Josh Whiteland and additional First Nations perspectives.
Class Four also gave their first singing and ukulele performance for Capecare residents last Friday. It was a deeply moving experience to see the children give to others in such a heartwarming way. The residents seemed to thoroughly enjoy the performance which commenced with the children singing some of their Viking’s songs and a beautiful round. When the children began their ukulele, many residents sang along to well-known songs such as ‘You are my Sunshine’, and other classics such as ‘Love me tender’, ‘Three Little Birds’, ‘Blowing in the Wind’ and ‘Country Roads’.
Warmly Marie
