YSS Newsletter 2026 Term 3 Week 3

In the cold and wintry depths True spirit warmth is found; A presence in the mirage of the world Is forged by forces of the heart And in defiance of the icy world The human soul-fire burns within. Calendar of the Soul -Rudolf Steiner

We acknowledge the Wadandi (Saltwater people) as the traditional custodians of these lands, skies and waterways where we come together at Yallingup Steiner School, and where learning has taken place for thousands of years.

We extend this respect to all First Nations people and thank the Ancestors, Elders, and custodians of the Wadandi community, who have cared for and continue to nurture Country, in their many restoration projects, community and cultural research and spiritual wisdom of the earth as sacred.

Welcome to Week 3

Core Principle 5: Working Together as a Living School Community

In Steiner education, the life of the school is carried not only by the curriculum, but by the relationships that surround each child. Core Principle 5 of Steiner Education Australia speaks to the importance of schools being guided by a conscious, collaborative and responsible collegiate life. In a small Steiner school, this principle is especially visible: teachers, staff, families and students all contribute to a shared sense of purpose, care and belonging.

When teachers meet to reflect on a child’s development, when parents lend their hands at a working bee, or when the community gathers for a seasonal festival, the school becomes more than a place of instruction. It becomes a living organism, strengthened by trust, shared responsibility and thoughtful participation. Each conversation, gesture and practical task helps create the healthy environment in which children can learn with confidence and joy.

For our school, Core Principle 5 reminds us that education is a community art. The care we bring to our relationships, our meetings, our celebrations and our daily work shapes the atmosphere our children breathe. By working together with warmth, respect and clear intention, we nurture not only each individual child, but the wellbeing and future of the whole school community.

Thank you to everyone for your consideration of the way in which we work here at Yallingup Steiner School. We recognise that families are busy and that the working life of parents must be balanced with community contributions. Please know that we value every gesture of support whether it is hours of service or simply your supportive attitude towards the workings of others, knowing that availability changes over time.

Thanks to the volunteers who have been able to avail themselves for excursions, bushwalks, in class support, the garden and the soup roster of late. Term Three is ticking along beautifully and the smiling faces of our students hold testament to the village that surrounds them.

Warm Regards,

Jacqui

Kindergarten and Primary School Open Days

We are holding two Open Days this term one for the Kindergartens and one for the Primary School.

For Kindergarten families, this will be a wonderful opportunity to spend time with your child, take part in an activity together, and experience a small slice of Kindergarten life.

For our C1–C6 families, and perhaps our K6 families, the chance to walk through the Primary School classrooms, see the children’s work, and speak with the teachers will be invaluable.

For our younger K6 families in particular, this will offer a meaningful glimpse of the journey ahead as their children prepare to join Class 1 in 2027.

Nurturing Our School Grounds Together

A big thank you to the volunteers who launched our new School Grounds working group last Thursday afternoon. By clearing away overgrown weeds and planting new life, these hands-on efforts have and will continue to help revitalise spaces in your children’s daily environment.

Each week, from 2:00 – 3:00pm on Thursday, we hope to build on this momentum. While our main focus this term is gardening, any extra help to maintain our wooden play structures is also highly valued.

The vision behind this working group is to strengthen the bond between you, our families, and our school spaces, highlighting the value of caring for place and building up community.

Please consider coming along as time allows, your contribution is very welcome.

Please contact Sarah Lawrence (0492463074) if you have any questions.

Warmly,

Rae-Lee
