Core Principle 5: Working Together as a Living School Community

In Steiner education, the life of the school is carried not only by the curriculum, but by the relationships that surround each child. Core Principle 5 of Steiner Education Australia speaks to the importance of schools being guided by a conscious, collaborative and responsible collegiate life. In a small Steiner school, this principle is especially visible: teachers, staff, families and students all contribute to a shared sense of purpose, care and belonging.

When teachers meet to reflect on a child’s development, when parents lend their hands at a working bee, or when the community gathers for a seasonal festival, the school becomes more than a place of instruction. It becomes a living organism, strengthened by trust, shared responsibility and thoughtful participation. Each conversation, gesture and practical task helps create the healthy environment in which children can learn with confidence and joy.

For our school, Core Principle 5 reminds us that education is a community art. The care we bring to our relationships, our meetings, our celebrations and our daily work shapes the atmosphere our children breathe. By working together with warmth, respect and clear intention, we nurture not only each individual child, but the wellbeing and future of the whole school community.

We recognise that families are busy and that the working life of parents must be balanced with community contributions. Please know that we value every gesture of support whether it is hours of service or simply your supportive attitude towards the workings of others, knowing that availability changes over time.

Thanks to the volunteers who have been able to avail themselves for excursions, bushwalks, in class support, the garden and the soup roster of late. Term Three is ticking along beautifully and the smiling faces of our students hold testament to the village that surrounds them.
